These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Lector, including the Lector website, web interface, and Chrome extension (collectively, the "Service").

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.

1. Service Description

Lector is a subscription-based text-to-speech service that converts written text into audio using artificial intelligence voice technology.

The Service is accessible through a Chrome extension and web interface.

Lector is intended for lawful, personal, and professional use.

2. Eligibility

You may use the Service only if you are at least 13 years old.

If you are under 18 years old, you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a subscription or enter into a paid plan.

By creating an account or using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.

3. Account Registration

To access paid features, you must create an account using a valid email address.

During account creation, you must confirm that you are at least 13 years old and agree to these Terms.

We reserve the right to suspend accounts suspected of fraudulent, abusive, or unauthorized behavior.

4. Subscription and Billing

Free Trial: New users may receive a 7-day free trial of Lector Pro. Payment information is required to begin the trial. You will not be charged during the trial period. At the end of your 7-day trial, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid plan and your payment method will be charged unless you cancel before the trial ends.

Subscription Plans:

Subscription fees are billed in advance on a recurring basis.

Auto-Renewal: All subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) unless you cancel. Monthly subscriptions renew each month. Annual subscriptions renew once per year. You will be charged the then-current subscription rate at each renewal.

Usage Limits: Pro subscribers receive 500,000 characters per month. During the free trial, users receive 500,000 characters total, subject to a daily limit of 200,000 characters. Unused characters do not roll over. We reserve the right to modify usage limits with notice.

Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account or billing portal. Upon cancellation:

Payment Processing: Payments are processed by LemonSqueezy. By subscribing, you also agree to LemonSqueezy's terms and policies. Lector does not store or process payment card information directly.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Lector to:

6. User Content and Responsibility

You are solely responsible for the text you submit to the Service.

Lector does not review or moderate content prior to processing.

You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights to use any text submitted.

By submitting content, you grant Lector a limited, non-exclusive license to process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service.

7. Data Processing and Privacy

Lector processes submitted text solely to generate audio output.

By default, Lector does not store submitted text unless you explicitly use features that require storage (such as a listening library or save feature).

We implement reasonable technical safeguards to protect user data.

8. Third-Party Services

Lector integrates with third-party services, including OpenAI for text-to-speech generation and LemonSqueezy for billing.

Your use of the Service is also subject to applicable third-party terms and policies.

Lector is not responsible for the actions, policies, or performance of third-party providers.

9. Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in and to Lector, including its software, branding, design, and functionality, are owned by Lector and protected by intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, sublicense, or create derivative works based on the Service without prior written consent.

You retain ownership of the text you submit.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE."

WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

LECTOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAID BY YOU TO LECTOR IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lector, its affiliates, and its service providers from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms or engage in abusive conduct.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

Provisions relating to intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification shall survive termination.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

Material changes will be communicated via email or through the Service.

Continued use of Lector after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
